We are happy to work with members of the community on volunteer projects; or to provide specific, individualized volunteer opportunities to students, senior citizens or others with an interest in becoming part of the Deaf Reach, Inc. family.

Interns from universities, high schools and other educational centers are encouraged to contact us to discuss potential placements with the agency. Opportunities are available in all programs.

Volunteer with Us

Welcome! Volunteers are an integral part of Deaf-REACH. We need people like you to join us in helping others.

 

At our organization, volunteers are essential.  Currently, volunteers serve Deaf-REACH in a number of ways, including assisting with recreational activities, working with individuals to enhance their social skills.  Individuals who choose to volunteer their own expertise, experiences, and motivation to strengthen the support and services available to those we serve are always welcome here at Deaf-REACH.

Requirements for volunteering vary based on the type of volunteer position desired and may include orientation and training, and a confidentiality agreement.

TYPICAL DAILY TASKS FOR VOLUNTEERS:

  • Assist with coordination and planning for special events, including fundraising events.

  • Assist Executive Director with current agency projects.

  • Explore grant opportunities.

  • Work on projects related to community resources.

  • Working one-on-one with clients to improve specific skills.

    Volunteer with Us

    Internships

    Deaf-REACH offers unpaid internships linked to courses for credit and to the fulfillment of community service hours.

    In most cases, interns are working on their college degree in Counseling, Social Work, and Psychology. Deaf-REACH has hosted interns from different universities including Gallaudet University. Interested students should check with their university to determine what qualifications off-site supervisors must possess and what procedures their university requires to initiate internships.

    TYPICAL DAILY TASKS FOR INTERNS

    • Assist program members and staff in developing social activities
    • Assist Executive Director with current agency projects.
    • Plan educational workshops for program members
    • Facilitating various client groups
    • Working one-on-one with clients to improve specific skills
    • Help with Job Coaching
    • Working with clients on pre-employment skills
    • Assisting clients in creating an employment profile
    • Conducting satisfaction surveys
